Attorneys Bill Chamblee, Weston Hall and Patrick Copeland were invited to speak at the In2Risk 2022 event hosted by the Institutes’ CPCU Society. The CPCU Society is designed to provide insurance underwriters with testimony and instruction from leaders in the insurance industry, which included our own presentation, Letters of Deception: The Truth Behind Letters of Protection. Our presentation addressed the rampant abuse of letters of protection by Plaintiffs’ attorneys, which included the background behind how letters of protection came to become so prevalent, how they’ve impacted the insurance industry through inflated damages, and how the Walker decision impacted the legal landscape of discovery in cases where Plaintiffs utilized letters of protection.
