HIPAA ALERT: ONLINE DATA COLLECTION BY HOSPITALS CAN LEAD TO VIOLATIONS

Class action lawsuits have been filed against Meta, the parent company of Facebook, alleging that agreements between the tech giant and hospitals to use an online tool to collect personal health information violates HIPAA regulations. In the September issue of Healthcare Risk Management, the firm’s Weston Hall says that hospitals should be concerned about such a breach. “The clear implications here are that there are multiple, rampant, and ongoing violations as long as this Meta Pixel is installed on the website of healthcare providers,” he says.
