Overview

Michael Marconi is an AV rated trial lawyer.  Before joining Chamblee Ryan, Michael ran his own firm and prior to that, he was a partner at several Dallas based law firms including nationally acclaimed litigation powerhouse, McKool Smith PC.  Throughout his career, Michael has worked on some of the highest profile cases in the history of American jurisprudence including the expansive litigation flowing from the Enron bankruptcy and the Allen Stanford Ponzi scheme.

Michael has tried numerous cases to verdict and for more than thirty years now, he has litigated hundreds of commercial disputes for businesses and individuals throughout Texas and the United States. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in the broadest spectrum of business litigation matters including disputes relating to contracts, unfair competition, real estate, construction, products liability, construction defects, mineral leases, trade secrets, non-competition agreements, and business divorces.

After graduating from college, Michael was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army and thereafter completed the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course and Basic Airborne School.  He was then assigned to the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas where he served in various positions of increasing responsibility including as a fire support officer for an M-1 tank company, battery executive officer and battalion adjutant.

By way of personal background, Michael lived overseas for sixteen years in Spain, Sweden, and Italy. After graduating from high school at the American School of Madrid, Michael attended Boston College. He is fluent in Spanish and Italian.  In his spare time, Michael plays tennis and pickleball and is an avid traveler.

Experience

  • Lead counsel for a Dallas-based electrical engineering firm in connection with a multi-million-dollar shareholder action filed in state district court. After a one-week trial and a demand for $2.5 million on the morning of closing arguments, the Court rendered a take nothing verdict in favor of the engineering firm.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of McKool Smith’s representation of the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Enron Corporation against the former officers and professionals of Enron. In that capacity, coordinated the efforts of a large team of lawyers and outside professionals including consulting and testifying experts.
  • Lead counsel for a landlord sued in connection with a commercial lease dispute relating to a restaurant site in Tarrant County, Texas. After a one-week trial, the jury rendered a verdict in favor of the landlord and awarded him his attorney’s fees and costs of court. Plaintiff was seeking nearly $1 million in damages.
  • Lead counsel for a group of investors who sued a business owner for fraud, breach of fiduciary duty and conversion in state court. After a one-week trial, the jury awarded the investors both compensatory and exemplary damages and found against the Defendant on his counterclaim.
  • Lead counsel for former employee sued in both federal and state district court for theft of trade secrets.  On the eve of trial and after numerous onerous demands from the Plaintiffs for damages and injunctive relief, both the federal and state court cases settled with a simple walkaway.
  • Lead counsel for an Indiana corporation sued in federal district court for trademark infringement, false advertising and cybersquatting under the Lanham Act, as well as state law claims for misappropriation of trade secrets, tortious interference and breach of contract. Michael took over the case which had been ongoing for several years, with less than 30 days left to conclude discovery.  In the face of demands for tens of millions of dollars, the case settled on the eve of trial for less than a fraction of the anticipated remaining costs of defense.
