Matt Rowan is a civil litigation attorney with extensive statewide experience in health law, corporate litigation, oil and gas litigation, employment law, eminent domain pipeline condemnation litigation, intellectual property litigation, and probate matters.

Matt has tried over 25 cases to juries and before judges in Texas; argued appellate briefs before the 10th and 12th Courts of Appeals in Texas, and briefed arguments to the Texas Supreme Court.  Matt has significant experience in trial work, corporate governance, medical negligence litigation, and myriad other areas of civil trial law.

Matt has been selected as a “Texas Rising Star” by the Texas Super Lawyers/Texas Monthly Magazine beginning in 2009 through 2016.  Matt was also recognized as the Outstanding Young Lawyer for Smith County in 2010.  He served as President of the Smith County Bar Association from 2013-2014 and has been on the Board of the Smith County Bar Association since 2008.  He has chaired the Mentoring Program for Smith County since 2015 and also organized the Law Day Lunch for Smith County for four years.

Matt is also involved in the community in Smith County.  He is presently on the Board of Directors for Goodwill of East Texas, Inc, serves on the City of Tyler Historical Preservation Board, and spends much time volunteering for multiple organizations in and around the East Texas area.

Born and raised in Tyler, Texas, Matt is married to Kathryn Nordyke Rowan and they have two children– Caroline, 16, and Michael, 13.

Organized and administered a large, multi-state document review procedure for a major financial institution in relation to a patent infringement case pending in the Eastern District of Texas.  The project encompassed over one year of work and the review of millions of documents, securing 50+ attorneys in three states.

Represented a multinational oil and gas company in organizing, coordinating and administering a large purchase/condemnation of pipeline easements and rights-of-way in multiple counties in Texas, as well as purchase of land to construct lift stations and processing facilities. This project involved the use of eminent domain powers granted by the State of Texas.  Administered the project involving over 60 filed state court cases, hundreds of land owners in six counties, and coordination with local governments, municipalities and local utility districts to accomplish the task.

Represents multiple medical entities, practices and clinics in employment matters, worked to obtain and confirm credentialing of health care providers with local health care facilities, provided corporate governance and other administrative matters for medical practice groups, health care facilities and clinics.

Obtained a zero liability on behalf of a Texas pulmonologist in a wrongful death case after a multi-week trial.

Obtained a zero liability verdict on behalf of an East Texas hospitalist in a wrongful death case after a week long trial.

Obtained a complete defense verdict for a general contractor in a personal injury/workplace injury matter.
